Page 10 Ready! That's a Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Win!

Page ten is done! And this is literally all I can show without spoiling the ending of issue three...

Hey, it's not a spoiler that the good guys win, it's getting there that's the fun. Only two more pages left in the issue!

College Follies #1 Creator's Commentary Video

So yesterday I made the College Follies #1 Creator's Commentary video. It's exactly what it sounds like, a director's commentary for a comic. I go through the comic panel-by-panel on ComiXology, talking about it and giving insight into the creative process and inspiration for each scene.

In order to not spoil the comic, this is only available to those who buy the issue. I've already included a link in a message for those who buy the comic on DriveThruComics.com. I can't do that on the other sites. So for the rest of you, just shoot me a message proving that you bought the comic. Send me a private message on social media with a shot of the comic on  your computer or mobile device. Or you could forward me the receipt of your purchase (my email is at the top of the letter column in the back).

I've wanted to do this since I started working on the first issue. A nice little experiment and something a little extra to say "Thank You" to those who buy College Follies. I hope you guys enjoy it.

Inking page 10...Final Battle Go!

So I'm currently inking page ten of issue three between a bunch of stuff I'm trying to square away for the release of issue one (currently on sale now). I'm running behind, but it should be no problem coloring it Wednesday and finishing the page Thursday so I can get back on schedule.

It's the climatic final page of the battle...so there's not much I can show you but whatever happens certainly seems to make Psychoboy happy...

My web address is now collegefollies.com!

So I finally purchased the domain name collegefollies.com from GoDaddy. This is a surprise because previously it wasn't available and it would cost a small fortune to get it. I assumed someone was cybersquatting it. So I was very glad to get it for cheap.

I also didn't know that all I had to do was select a forwarding option on GoDaddy to make it the web address of my blog! I thought it was a more complicated process I had to do through the blog, but it was super easy through GoDaddy. It took the better part of a day for it to work, but now when you type in "collegefollies.com" you come here. Try it, it's fun!

I even put it on my new business cards I just had done! Ginchy!

Spreading the word at Heroes Con!

Below is a brand new flyer I printed out yesterday on the release of the comic! I’m taking a couple hundred of these to Charlotte today for Heroes Con, my state’s biggest convention. They’ll go on the hand out table and I’ll be handing some out too.

I decided not to go as a creator this year. It’s $300 for a table for three days, plus a fee for wi fi and electricity if I use that. Getting a hotel room would run close to $300 itself. And that’s not counting the costs for any promotional materials or comics I print up (which also runs in the hundreds). That’s a lot of money. I’ve only been to one small con so I want to have some idea of what I’m doing before I even consider spending that kind of money. Plus I had no idea the comic would be released on Comixology by now.

I’ll be doing a local con next month and I’m contemplating a large convention in Durham in November which is half the cost of Heroes Con. It's still a lot of money, but I would like to try a bigger con to see what it's like if I can afford it.

Getting College Follies #1, Episode III: Comixology!

So this is the last video in my series on getting and using the comic on the different sites it’s available on. Comixology is obviously the biggest and hardest to get on, so it felt really good seeing my comic on my smart phone finally. I was using Google Chrome while reading the comic on my computer because Internet Explorer wouldn’t let me move around in single page mode. This is a glitch that seems new to their revamped digital comic format, so if you run into problems on your PC, try a different browser.

I used Microsoft Expressions to do screen captures for the part that’s on my computer. And you’ll notice I got a clean recording of my voice with no buzzing. The buzzing on the last one was my CAD USB U1 microphone. After trying many different online remedies I think I found the causes: one was the close proximity to my laptop screen and the other was the light coming from florescent light bulbs in my apartment. So I hooked my laptop to my TV screen (which doubles as a monitor) and used the ridiculously long microphone cord to sit on my loveseat and do the voice over from there with my lamps off. And it worked perfectly.

So just to summarize, my microphone, for no apparent reason developed a weakness to particular types of light. So now it’s a vampire microphone. Hey, whatever works.

For the part where I shot my smart phone and I originally wanted to shoot it with the window open but my camera ended up focusing on the bush outside my window instead of my phone. So I reshot it with the blinds closed.
n
I’m currently taking time off from work. I’ve got a lot of other video ideas but I’m not sure which ones I’ll have time to do. I definitely want to knock out at least one page out on issue three since issue one’s sudden release has prevented me from working on it for the last week and I still want to get it done by early July. Tomorrow I’m heading to Heroes Con with newly printed flyers on the comic’s release. Stay tuned!

College Follies #1 is out on Comixology!!!!

College Follies #1 is now on Comixology. You can buy it and read it either online on your computer or your mobile device.  You can also buy as a gift and give it to friends.  Click here to get it!

Not much to say right now. I'm glad it's finally out and I hope you guys enjoy it. Please let me know what you think when you read it!

Getting College Follies #1...The Sequel! Amusedom Strikes Back!

I hope this video will encourage people to check out Amusedom. It's a great little site.

So this was kind of fun to record. I had a good laugh in some earlier takes with the nude women popping up on the front page. But I also had some severe problems recording the video, My camera just didn't like the site. The sides of the screen became wavy after I downloaded the video onto my computer. I did two separate recordings (each requiring a dozen takes) and neither worked.

So I found a program called Microsoft Expressions that lets you record what's happening on your computer screen while recording your voice through whatever microphone you have. This worked perfectly. I actually did this video in one take on the first try.

But then I got it to YouTube and noticed a slight buzzing and other noises in the background. I think the problem is my microphone, since I've tested it on another program I now have same the problem. I haven't figured out what it is or why it didn't happen with the other voice overs I recorded with it a few months ago.

So I put some background music in the video with YouTube's Video Editor to cover it up. I hope the music isn't not too loud, that's literally as low as it would go.  I still think turned out okay. The music is kind of interesting, maybe I'll try it on other videos.

And so tomorrow the comic is finally released on Comixiology

Getting College Follies #1 on DriveThruComics...the movie!

This is my latest video showing how to get College Follies #1 on DriveThruComics and what it's like once you get it. It gives the viewer a chance to see what a comic is like as a PDF.

For this I  just pointed the camera at my screen and shot it while talking. The PDF part of it had to be reshot since parts of the image would get wavy once I downloaded the video onto my computer. Not sure why that is. The second take wasn't as bad, there's just a few moment my camera's automatic focus readjusts itself.

And my desktop background is Hadya the Guide from The 99 comics series, in case you were wondering. A video for Amusedom is also on Youtube now and I'll talk about that tomorrow.

Me Announcing College Follies #1's Release In My Kitchen!

So this is a video on the release of College Follies #1 on Amusedom and DriveThruComics and coming this Wednesday to ComiXology. The goofy looking guy in the video goes over all the details, so no need to rehash them here. Please check out the comic and share the video or any links to the comic that can be found here.

This was shot in a corner of my kitchen, one of the few spots in my apartment where there's enough light for it not to be grainy. But I'm not crazy about the lighting and acoustics. I'll try another spot next. Maybe I'll start shooting this stuff outside, I'll just stick the oversized covers to the nearest tree or something.

One thing I am happy with on this video is my ability to walk you guys through the options for what comic is like on the different sites in a visual manner. Turning the camera on my TV (which can act as a monitor for my laptop) and talking as I showed the comic worked well. The transitions on YouTube's Video Editor made it look super slick.

This is what is hopefully the first of several videos promoting the comic's release, so be sure to subscribe to my YouTube Channel to see more videos of me awkwardly talking about stuff!

College Follies will be on Comixology on Wednesday!!!

So I early released the comic yesterday as a downloadable PDF on DriveThruComics and an online digital comic on Amusedom. But then late last night I got an email from Comixology telling me issue one will be up on Wednesday!

Not much else to say other than I was already scrambling to catch up to the early release, so it's taking me a little bit to get situated on this one. But it's very good to know that instead of it taking several months, they got it up in only a month and a half after they accepted it.

I'll. of course, be linking to the comic on Comixology starting on Wednesday. When you buy it on Comixology, it's a digital comic with guided view you can read on both their website and their mobile app.

Those looking to get their virtual hands on the issue before then, click here for direct links to get it now on Amusedom and DriveThruComics! Or you could always click on this nifty image...

Page Nine...Ready! Killamari cannot be harmed by the weapons of man!

Page nine is done! Only three pages to go in issue three!

I can't show you much without spoiling the ending but here's one panel that I think won't give away too much...

Hm. Yeah, it always turns out well for the monster after they say something like that...

Tonight, I'll be submitting issue one for early release  on DriveThruComics and Amusedom within  the week and then... on to page ten!

Appearing at Jay & Eddies Comicbook Show on July 19th!

A quick announcement to let you guys know I'll be one of the creators with a booth at Jay & Eddie's Comicbook Show on July 19th from 10 am-4:30 pm at Quality Inn and Suites, 2008 S. Hawthorne Road, in Winston-Salem. It's a little smaller than the Winston-Salem Comic-Con from April but it's got more than enough creators, artists and dealers that I'm in good company. No contest this time, I'll be saving giveaways for bigger cons in the future. I'll be selling both cover variants of  issue one and issue two there. Look forward to seeing you there!

Coloring Page Nine...Kilimari in Red

Page nine is inked and I'm coloring it tonight. It's been a busy weekend with work and some shopping at a toy fair, but I should be able to finish up the page later in the week right on schedule.

Page Eight...Ready! Robot Fish Beatdown!

So page eight is done. So as not to spoil the ending of the comic before it's released, I'll only be posting exerts from the last five pages. Here's a couple of cool panels that shouldn't give the whole thing away...

Next up, page nine, as the action continues!

College Follies #1 Early Release Is Coming In Mid-June!

Okay, so to let you guys know, in just over a week College Follies #1 will be available on both DriveThruComics as a downloadable PDF and on Amusedom as a web-only digital comic without guided view. This is for folks who would like to get it early before the ComiXology release later this year (or heck, if you want to buy a version on every site, feel free, I certainly won't stop you).

A week from now I'll be submitting College Follies #1 for review on DriveThruComics. According to their site, it could up as early as next Friday or may go live sometime the week after that. I'll have control over the exact date when the others go live, but for the first one they'll be looking it over and it'll go live when they're done. When that happens I'll make the Amusedom version go live and let you guys know.

As for the rest of the series, while I can't control ComiXology's release schedule,  here is the schedule for the early releases on DriveThru and Amusedom...

Issue Two- July 16
Issue Three- September 3
Issue Four- October 1
Issue Five- Early 2015

Issue Two Sent To ComiXology!

I sent issue two to ComiXology this weekend. I'm still waiting for the first issue to go live, which may take a couple more months, according to their site. I'll be early releasing the first issue this month on both Amusedom and DriveThruComics. Both are ready to go at the push of a button.

The early releases I can control, but Comixology is more unpredictable. From what little I could find from creators who submitted to Comixology I've seen two experiences:

 1) After the first issue is approved, latter issues are approved in a matter of weeks and gotten up in a similar amount of time.

2) Latter issue end up going through a period of review and processing similar to what a first issue goes through (which would mean it takes six to nine months).

Obviously both these possibilities can't be true. I pray the first one happens. If not I'll probably have to pay out of my own pocket to early release it on mobile devices in a more timely manner.
