College Follies #4 now on ComiXology!

Just a quick post to make sure everyone knows College Follies #4 is out! It went live on ComiXology on Wednesday and you can get it by clicking here.  The issue tells the story of Psychoboy's campaign for Congress. The 8 page short story includes an editorial by Psychoboy himself and is available for only 99 cents. Be sure to also check out Psychoboy's online campaign at electpsychoboy.com, which features a bio, campaign videos and links to Psycho's social media campaign.

And with that, all four issues of College Follies are now available on ComiXology as well as on Amusedom and DriveThruComics. I'll be talking about plans for issue five soon. Until then, consume mass quantities of the series, and let me know what you think!

College Follies #4 will be out on ComiXology this Wednesday!

Just a quick post to let you know that College Follies #4, the Elect Psychoboy issue, will be out on ComiXology on Wednesday. It's only one week after the release of Issue 3, so this is a super fast turnaround after I submitted Issue 4 a little over a month ago. So in just a couple days, all four existing issues of College Follies will be on ComiXology!

College Follies #3 is out now on Comixology!

College Follies #3, the Power Ranger parody issue, came out yesterday on ComiXology and you can get it here!

The issue was inspired by the 20th anniversary of  Power Rangers and the big anniversary season wraps up this Saturday with a finale featuring almost a dozen returning actors (including Jason David Frank as Tommy) and all 120+ rangers appearing in one big battle. There is no more perfect week that this issue could be released!!!

ComiXology responds to College Follies #3 and #4!

I just got two emails from ComiXology this morning on College Folllies #3 and #4....they've both been approved!

So others who submitted to ComiXology had experienced a significant acceleration in turnaround time on subsequent issues of their series and apparently that's finally happening for me! It took 6 months to get issue one approved and more than three months to get issue two approved. Issue three was submitted three months, so that's only a slight improvement. But issue four was submitted less than three weeks ago, so it was approved in under a  month!!!

This is great news since issue three, a Power Ranger parody, should come out in November, which is when the final episodes of the current 20th anniversary season of Power Rangers are being shown. And issue four, in which Psychoboy runs for Congress, should be out before year's end on ComiXology!

ComiXology accepted College Follies #2!

Just got the acceptance letter on College Follies #2 from ComiXology this morning! Issue one took almost two months for them to process for release after acceptance, but since issue two is shorter, hopefully it'll be quicker.

Issue two is a slice of life, anti-romantic comedy set in a Super Happy-Mart starring Stickoy and his ex-girlfirend, Dino. Because it's a shorter issue, it's 99 cent, and is already out on Amusedom and DriveThruComics. The ComiXology version can be read on both computers and mobile devices and has "Guided View" that takes you through the comic panel-by-panel (ideal for mobile devices).

College Follies #3, the Power Ranger parody issue, hasn't been reviewed yet. I'm hoping the pace picks up now that I've got two issues approved. I doubt issue three will be out on ComiXology before December, like I'd hoped, but it is out on Amusedom and DriveThruComics right now.

So wait just a little bit longer and you'll soon be reading College Follies #2 on ComiXology!

ComiXology update on issue two...

A quick update on  issue two. Issue two has been resubmitted to ComiXology with a three page preview of issue three to get it to the eight page minimum they mentioned in their rejection email. After I posted my blog yesterday about the rejection I got a message directly from ComiXology saying that the length was the only issue and once I get it to eight pages or above I'm good, so you will indeed be seeing College Follies #2 on there soon!

I hadn't bothered emailing them about the rejection because the response from Comixology at this point in the submission process on issue one was very limited, either repeating stuff off their FAQ without giving me any info on my specific submission or just no response at all. Now, after issue one was approved, they responded very quickly to my request to change its category when a glitch on their site put it in "Pulp" instead of "Comedy," but at this point on an unapproved issue I expected no response.

Since I didn't email them I'm assuming they saw my blog and were responding directly to it. It's odd, but I do appreciate the clarification and it feels good know issue two will be on ComiXology soon.

So hopefully in the next several weeks, issue two will be up. Last time the approval was very quick once I resubmitted (a week or so) and then it was another month or so to get it up. Hopefully it'll be at least that fast this time.

ComiXology Responds To Issue Two...And It Came Up Short....

So ComiXology finally responded to issue two. I submitted it at the first of June and got the response last night and they rejected it. Why?

Here's what the email said (complete with typo):

"- Other: We have a minimum requirement of 8 story pages not including cover and credits page. Please resubmit when you have more then 5 pages of story."

It turns out it took them three months to figure out the story was five pages. Well, hopefully not. I would like to think they examined the other aspects of it, determining it was good enough for their site, so they would know that length was the only objection. It would make sense since everything in the issue (lettering, coloring, pdf settings, etc.) is exactly same as the first issue that they excepted and now have on sale. The only difference is that the inking on issue two is A LOT better since I did it digitally.

So I just make it longer and I'm good, right? So I'll be automatically accepted like last time, when I corrected another automatic denial that mystifyingly was not included in their FAQ or submission guidelines, right?

Well, maybe. The email said nothing about tentative acceptance this time. It was phrased completely differently:

"Dear Todd Luck,
Unfortunately, we're unable to accept your comic College Follies 2 at this time. Below are our recommendations for revisions or improvements that might make your comic more appropriate for comiXology in the future.

Please consider them for your next submission, and we wish you much success in your future comic book endeavors."

So if length was the only problem, why would it be phrased this way? Certainly they know I can just slap another short on there and resubmit.

So I'm unsure what's going on. I'm going to assume once I get it up to eight pages or above, I'm in. I'm currently racing to get issue four out by October so I don't have time to create a new three page story at the moment. So I'm just going to put a three page preview for issue three in there and resubmit it today.

In the meantime, you can read issue two and issue three (the Power Ranger parody issue) on both Amusedom and DriveThruComics. And, like I said, issue one is on ComiXology, waiting to be joined by the rest of series...

Issue Three Uploaded!!!

Darn straight, Psychoboy!

Shoot off some fire works and crank up the Bon Jovi, issue three has been sent to Comixology! It'll go through their review process before going up, but since they accepted College Follies #1 (now on sale) that shouldn't be a problem. The question is when. It's been almost two months since I submitted issue two, so it appears to still be a slow process.

I've also uploaded issue three to Amusedom and DriveThuComics, where I do have control over the release date. It'll be out on Sept 3 on those sites. I'm also prepping it for print so it can be ready for a convention in September, which I'll give you guys the full details of once I've confirmed them.

Work on issue four is going on now, with a mad dash to get it out by the end of October. More details on that soon as Psychoboy prepares to run for office!

Issue Two Is Out Now!!!

Issue two is out as a digital comic on Amusedom and as downloadable PDF on DriveThruComics. Above is the regular cover and to the right is the variant available digitally only on Amusedom. The short story of rumored romance set in the aisles of a Super Happy Mart is only 99 cent! I'm still waiting to hear back from Comixology but since they picked up issue one, I assume they'll do so with issue two (it's just a question of when they'll get it up). And, of course, I'll be selling print copies of both the regular and variant  covers for issue two at Saturday's convention.

So click on the links below and get issue two! Issue one is on all the sites I mentioned (you can get it by clicking here) and issue three will be out starting the first week in September.

Getting College Follies #1, Episode III: Comixology!

So this is the last video in my series on getting and using the comic on the different sites it’s available on. Comixology is obviously the biggest and hardest to get on, so it felt really good seeing my comic on my smart phone finally. I was using Google Chrome while reading the comic on my computer because Internet Explorer wouldn’t let me move around in single page mode. This is a glitch that seems new to their revamped digital comic format, so if you run into problems on your PC, try a different browser.

I used Microsoft Expressions to do screen captures for the part that’s on my computer. And you’ll notice I got a clean recording of my voice with no buzzing. The buzzing on the last one was my CAD USB U1 microphone. After trying many different online remedies I think I found the causes: one was the close proximity to my laptop screen and the other was the light coming from florescent light bulbs in my apartment. So I hooked my laptop to my TV screen (which doubles as a monitor) and used the ridiculously long microphone cord to sit on my loveseat and do the voice over from there with my lamps off. And it worked perfectly.

So just to summarize, my microphone, for no apparent reason developed a weakness to particular types of light. So now it’s a vampire microphone. Hey, whatever works.

For the part where I shot my smart phone and I originally wanted to shoot it with the window open but my camera ended up focusing on the bush outside my window instead of my phone. So I reshot it with the blinds closed.
n
I’m currently taking time off from work. I’ve got a lot of other video ideas but I’m not sure which ones I’ll have time to do. I definitely want to knock out at least one page out on issue three since issue one’s sudden release has prevented me from working on it for the last week and I still want to get it done by early July. Tomorrow I’m heading to Heroes Con with newly printed flyers on the comic’s release. Stay tuned!

Me Announcing College Follies #1's Release In My Kitchen!

So this is a video on the release of College Follies #1 on Amusedom and DriveThruComics and coming this Wednesday to ComiXology. The goofy looking guy in the video goes over all the details, so no need to rehash them here. Please check out the comic and share the video or any links to the comic that can be found here.

This was shot in a corner of my kitchen, one of the few spots in my apartment where there's enough light for it not to be grainy. But I'm not crazy about the lighting and acoustics. I'll try another spot next. Maybe I'll start shooting this stuff outside, I'll just stick the oversized covers to the nearest tree or something.

One thing I am happy with on this video is my ability to walk you guys through the options for what comic is like on the different sites in a visual manner. Turning the camera on my TV (which can act as a monitor for my laptop) and talking as I showed the comic worked well. The transitions on YouTube's Video Editor made it look super slick.

This is what is hopefully the first of several videos promoting the comic's release, so be sure to subscribe to my YouTube Channel to see more videos of me awkwardly talking about stuff!

College Follies will be on Comixology on Wednesday!!!

So I early released the comic yesterday as a downloadable PDF on DriveThruComics and an online digital comic on Amusedom. But then late last night I got an email from Comixology telling me issue one will be up on Wednesday!

Not much else to say other than I was already scrambling to catch up to the early release, so it's taking me a little bit to get situated on this one. But it's very good to know that instead of it taking several months, they got it up in only a month and a half after they accepted it.

I'll. of course, be linking to the comic on Comixology starting on Wednesday. When you buy it on Comixology, it's a digital comic with guided view you can read on both their website and their mobile app.

Those looking to get their virtual hands on the issue before then, click here for direct links to get it now on Amusedom and DriveThruComics! Or you could always click on this nifty image...

College Follies #1 is now available for purchase!

I've early released it on both DriveThruComics and Amusedom! Amusedom is a digital comic format you can read on your web browser and has both the regular and variant cover editions on there. DriveThruComics has PDFs of comics you download to your computer to read. Choose either, choose both...buy more, be happy!

The ComiXology release will be in the next month or two if you'd prefer to get it there. Regardless of where you get it, it's only a $1.99 online! For those wanting print copies, I'm selling those at conventions currently for $2.99 and will open those up to online sales in the fall.

So be the first to buy the issue by clicking on either of the images below! And be sure to drop me a line and let me know what you think!

College Follies #1 Early Release Is Coming In Mid-June!

Okay, so to let you guys know, in just over a week College Follies #1 will be available on both DriveThruComics as a downloadable PDF and on Amusedom as a web-only digital comic without guided view. This is for folks who would like to get it early before the ComiXology release later this year (or heck, if you want to buy a version on every site, feel free, I certainly won't stop you).

A week from now I'll be submitting College Follies #1 for review on DriveThruComics. According to their site, it could up as early as next Friday or may go live sometime the week after that. I'll have control over the exact date when the others go live, but for the first one they'll be looking it over and it'll go live when they're done. When that happens I'll make the Amusedom version go live and let you guys know.

As for the rest of the series, while I can't control ComiXology's release schedule,  here is the schedule for the early releases on DriveThru and Amusedom...

Issue Two- July 16
Issue Three- September 3
Issue Four- October 1
Issue Five- Early 2015

Issue Two Sent To ComiXology!

I sent issue two to ComiXology this weekend. I'm still waiting for the first issue to go live, which may take a couple more months, according to their site. I'll be early releasing the first issue this month on both Amusedom and DriveThruComics. Both are ready to go at the push of a button.

The early releases I can control, but Comixology is more unpredictable. From what little I could find from creators who submitted to Comixology I've seen two experiences:

 1) After the first issue is approved, latter issues are approved in a matter of weeks and gotten up in a similar amount of time.

2) Latter issue end up going through a period of review and processing similar to what a first issue goes through (which would mean it takes six to nine months).

Obviously both these possibilities can't be true. I pray the first one happens. If not I'll probably have to pay out of my own pocket to early release it on mobile devices in a more timely manner.

Tales From The Fontside...Issue Two Font Replaced!

I just finished replacing the font on issue two for ComiXology. Just like issue one, it was lettered with Comic Sans, which ComiXology doesn't accept. Just like issue one, I've replaced all instances of Comic Sans with another font in order to submit it. Since issue two is a much shorter short story (five pages) it was quicker work that shouldn't interfere with my production of issue three, which I'll be resuming work on tonight. I'll be sending off issue two to ComiXology this weekend for what will hopefully be a prompt release after issue one!
