Elect Psychoboy is a go!

So I completed Psychoboy's campaign and social media pages this week and have his initial posts ready to go. The idea with issue four is that part of it is told in the comic and part of it is an interactive online experience.

The site, electpsychoboy.com, is up now. Be sure to check out everything on there. His biography alone is priceless. More stuff will be added later as he gets responses on what his positions should be and I create some short YouTube ads for his campaign.

And then be sure to join Team Psycho by liking or following Psychoboy on social media. He'll send you ads and other nonsense from his campaign regularly (probably about once a day), In a couple weeks he'll be asking what you want him to stand for, what positions he should take and I'll be adding whatever it is to his platform on his site. Build a Death Star? A giant robot in every yard? Eliminate all taxes and completely pay off the national debt? The sky's the limit!

This experience depends on you. You're going to need to like, favorite, share and comment on the posts in order for this to work. I need to reach as many people as possible.

You can follow Psychoboy on Google+, Facebook and Twitter (they'll be a bit of extra stuff for those of you on Google+).  I'll be sharing his posts using the College Follies pages on Twitter and Google+ and my personal page (Todd Luck) on Facebook (since posts on the College Follies Facebook page don't seem to reach anyone).

It's a relief to get this going. I'm also halfway through the story, having completed page four, which I'll be posting later today. I'm on schedule to complete issue four in October!

At this point, this blog will feature major announcements and posts on page completion as I shift over to social media posts for Psychoboy's campaign and the occasional post to remind folks the first three issues are out.

So click on the links in this post and tell your friends, let's make this campaign epic!

Issue Four...Psycho Goes To Washington!

So issue four is called "Psychoboy Goes To Washington." In it, Psychoboy runs for the House of Representatives, recruiting his best bud Stickboy to be his campaign manager.

I haven't written the script yet, but I'm thinking it should be around nine pages long and cost 99 cent online. Since I'm capturing an entire campaign in a short story, obviously they'll be lots of jumping around in time and summarizing in the story. But the comic will only be part of it.

I also want to tell the story online in an interactive way. Psychoboy will have an actual virtual campaign while I'm working on the issue. He'll have a campaign site and be posting on social media. Having no convictions of his own, he'll be asking you what he should stand for, letting you write his platform. He'll also be posting hilarious campaign ads, both memes and the occasional YouTube video as well as various other miscellaneous nonsense. It's going to be a lot of fun and I hope a lot of people sign up for and share his posts.

If you want to be an early adaptor and join Team Psycho you're more than welcome to look Psychoboy up on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ and start liking and following him now. I'll be launching everything within a couple weeks and I'll let you guys know when the campaign is ready to go.

With the added virtual campaign, I'll be posting on here a lot less. There will still be posts to let you know what my progress is, I always want you guys to know where I'm at, but they'll be less detailed and less frequent. I'll still posting announcements and whenever I completely finish a page. Showing every bit of the creation of the series was great when that's all I had to show, but now that the series is out, it's time to switch gears and try something new and different that I hope you guys will enjoy.

My goal is have the issue done in October. I doubt I'll hit my original goal of having it done the first week of October but there shouldn't be any problem getting it out before the election.

In my next post I'll be announcing my fall convention appearances. Until then, remember to vote early, vote often and vote Psychoboy!

The College Follies "Get Them To Like Me On Facebook" Challenge

So I've been working on the comic for a little over three months now and I'm pretty much done with the first issue (and getting ready to submit it). During that time, I've been on social media interacting with potential readers, trying to get followers.

I've had a good response on Google+, which I'm enjoying a lot. I've met some really great people through the communities there.

On Twitter, I'm doing okay. I'm still figuring out Twitter out as I go.

But Facebook, it's a problem. I'm getting very few likes no matter what I try.

Which is a little discouraging.

But I've got an idea.

I'm going to let you guys figure it out for me in my first contest:

The College Follies "Get Them To Like Me On Facebook" Challenge

Whoever comes up with the best way to get people to like the College Follies Facebook page wins.

The prize will be a printed copy of the first and only College Follies issue printed in 2000. This is the comic I'm currently touching up, coloring and turning into a digital comic. Only 50 copies were printed and the orginal files for it have been lost, so if this story ever goes to press again, it'll be using the touched up files I'm working on now. So this is a rare chance to get the issue as originally done, unedited, warts and all.

The rules are simple:

1. Like the College Follies Facebook page at facebook.com/collegefollies

2. Do something to get people to like the page.

This can be anything you want.

In my Facebook and Google+ posts for this contest, I'm going to include some art from the comic you can add text to and turn into promotional images, but there's plenty of  other art on both pages and this blog you can use to create images to plug the Facebook page.

You can also create your own images or you don't even have to use images at all. It could be some text you post, a verbal plug, a video you make, a yard sign, sky writing...anything that gets people to like the page.

3) Document what you do and share it to the College Follies Facebook page.

For images, text or video you post online somewhere, sharing a link or post should be easy. If it's something in the "real world" just document it in some fashion to prove you did it and share it to the Facebook page.

The contest will run until the College Follies Facebook page gets one hundred likes. That may take a week. That may take a year. However long that takes is how long the contest lasts.

Since it'll be hard to tell how many likes I get from a specific entry, I'll be judging them subjectively based on what I think is best, in other words what I think is the most creative, appealing and effective entry.

The winner will be announced via this blog and all the other College Follies social media pages, including Facebook, so be sure to check my updates for the winner.

And that's it. I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with. Good luck to everyone.

Social Media on Parade: Facebook photobombing

In the time between finishing pages for the comic, I'll be posting various bits of art I've done related to the comic. So I thought I'd do a series of posts on the new art I had to create for each College Follies social media site.

We'll start with Facebook. The 500 pound gorilla of the internet. The social network Mark Zuckerburg started to get back at an ex-girlfriend (hey, if Aaron Sorkin wrote it in a screenplay, it must be true).

So this is the image on facebook.com/collegefollies:

It originally started out as art for my YouTube channel with my main character Stickboy trying to get himself and his girlfriend Kinkygirl on tape, with his pals Psychoboy and Bigirl jumping in to get in on the video. When I discovered I completely misunderstood how YouTube channel art worked, I had to go with something else for my channel art.

The image was reworked for Facebook and became Stickboy taking a photo of him and Kinkygirl with Psychoboy and Bigirl photobombing him. All the characters pictured have appeared in various bits of art I've done for College Follies since I first drew the series in 1999, except Kinkygirl. It's her first time being drawn for the series...well sorta.

Kinky is based on my ex-girlfriend who became my ex-wife. During our eight relationship, I would draw Kinky on homemade cards I would give her and even in a little book I drew for her as a gift. When we divorced, she obviously kept all the cards and the book I made for her. For whatever reason, I never made copies or photos of any of it. I didn't keep any sketches or designs I did for the character (if any existed, I may have just drawn her directly on the page).

So other than Stickboy himself, I've actually drawn Kinky more than any other College Follies character. Yet I don't have any references for her other than a single published image of her that was done for a political cartoon in my school newspaper (and that was at an odd angle, so I couldn't tell how I did the shape of the face).

So I was pretty much coming up with the design for her as I did the Facebook image, I think it came out decent, though I may do some tweaking on it in the future. It's good to see her character in a proper image for the series. Stickboy, like everyone else, deserves some love.
